Meeting:

LRM takes place from 2:30pm-3:30pm on Mondays at CL Smith.

Project Description:

Lego Robotics Mentoring (LRM) is a project within the Cal Poly Robotics club that started in the Winter Quarter of 2010. The purpose of LRM is to provide the mentoring support of Cal Poly students to the students of various nearby elementary schools. Currently LRM is working with the 4th-6th graders of CL Smith Elementary involved in the CL Smith Lego Robotics Club.

The students use the Mindstorm and WeDo kits from Lego. These kits from Lego are designed to be fun and easy to use for kids. WeDo kits are a step down from Mindstorm kits and are simpler to use. The students learn how to work together to build and program their robots to compete in a competition between the teams at the same level.

There are currently three types of teams. The first is the Advanced Mindstorm groups, which are composed of students from CL Smith that have been in the program the longest. They use the Mindstorm and additional lego kits. The Standard Mindstorm groups are students who have been in the program before and use the Mindstorm kits. The WeDo teams are made of students who are in the program for the first time.
